Hakodate is one of the major cities in Hokkaido and has many visitors. Its number of population is the third largest in Hokkaido following Sapporo-shi and Asahikawa-shi.
Goryokaku where the Battle of Hakodate took place and Hakodate-yama where you can watch the night view of the whole city are the popular spots.
■ Goryokaku (五稜郭)
A star fort built in current Hakodate-shi in 1866. Battle of Hakodate (1868-1869) took place here. Since it was opened to the public for free as a park in 1914, it became one of the famous sightseeing spots in Hakodate-shi.

■ Mt. Hakodate (函館山)
A mountain located on the west side of Hakodate-shi. There are ropeways to the top of the mountain, where there is an observation deck. From the deck, you can overlook the night view of the whole city.
