Kyushu is one of the islands that make up the Japanese archipelago and is located in the southwestern part of it.
It is one of the four major islands along with Hokkaido, Honshu, and Shikoku, and is the third largest island among them, and is the 37th largest island in the world after Spitsbergen (Norway).
The highest altitude in Kyushu is 1,791 meters, which is the altitude of the Kuju mountain range and Mt. Nakadake in Oita prefecture. The highest altitude in the Kyushu region is 1,936 m, which is the altitude of Mt. Miyanoura, Yakushima in Kagoshima Prefecture.
